Banned Books on FILM is a film series that accompanies the Banned Books Club. Join us for a film screening of the movie, The Wizard of Oz, based on the original book. The newly released movie “Wicked: Part 1.” is the film adaptation, directed by Jon M. Chu of the hit Broadway musical. The musical was adapted from Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, a revisionist twist on “The Wizard of Oz” (originally written by L. Frank Baum).

A young farm girl and her little dog are magically transported into the enchanted land of Oz via a Kansas tornado. As they travel down Oz's Yellow Brick Road to find the Wizard and ask him to send them home, they encounter a wonderful, funny, terrifying and, ultimately, enlightening group of characters, human and otherwise. This 1939 award-winning film classic (Best Score and Best Song Academy Awards) is a perennial favorite that has recently been meticulously restored. Watch the film trailer HERE.

The film stars Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Margaret Hamilton. It is produced by Warner Bros. Studios, with a rating of G and a runtime of 101 minutes.
