Studies show English as Second Language students showed a 17% improvement in comprehension through the use of subtitles (Birulés-Muntané, S. Soto-Faraco, 2016). To aid our ESL community, we will be hosting ESL Film Club to view Latine-X authored plays that were made into films in the English language, with Spanish subtitles. To aid in pronunciation, the film will periodically be paused to read as a group, a scene that was on screen. Let's celebrate Latinidad while practicing language acquisition together!

The first meeting of the E.S.L Film Club will be Saturday, November 16th from 1:00 to 3:30 pm featuring In The Heights based on the Broadway play written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“In the Heights” is a vibrant film that celebrates the diverse Latinx community of Washington Heights in New York City. The story revolves around a variety of characters living in this neighborhood, each sharing their life stories and dreams through catchy musical numbers that blend pulsating Latin rhythms with energetic dance routines.
