¡Amigues! There’s power in seeing yourself in the books you read. Latiné book clubs offer a supportive space to celebrate literature together. All are invited to read about and discuss the social dynamics of our lived experience across Latiné origin or decent. Join us the third Wednesday of the month at noon for lunchtime book discussion at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library or online via Zoom.
The book club selection for the month of November is The Witches of El Paso by Luis Jaramillo.
If you call to the witches, they will come.
1943, El Paso, Texas: teenager Nena spends her days caring for the small children of her older sisters. The premonitions and fainting spells she has endured since childhood are getting worse, and Nena worries she’ll end up like the scary old curandera down the street.
“Sexy, smart, and soulful, Luis Jaramillo’s The Witches of El Paso pulls us across borders and time to get to the essence of what it means for families to survive this beautiful, fractured world”.
You can read the book by checking it out from the reference desk starting November 1st.
Registration is optional. If you choose to register you will get a reminder of the event sent to your email.
