Social Justice Book Group (SJRG) will discuss books related to a topic of local, national or international importance. A librarian will introduce a book on the subject and group members are invited comment and or introduce a book for discussion that they have read. 

The social justice topic for the month is AAPI Heritage Month- Commonalities in Diaspora; Solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community – featured book: Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner.

Asian-American, like other hyphenated ethnic communities, navigate diaspora, the spread of a people from their original homeland as they settle in the United States. In observation of Heritage Month, SJRG will discuss books by AAPI authors in search of empathy, and solidarity with the AAPI community, who have seen increased harassment in the past years. Crying in H Mart, is a memoir by Michelle Zauner, best known as the singer Japanese Breakfast. Themes discussed will be growing up Korean American and reckoning with identity as a member of the AAAPI community. The book also touches on food culture, language, and the loss of a mother.
