Vetting News Sources

The News Literacy Project states that, “news literacy is the ability to determine the credibility of news and other information and to recognize the standards of fact-based journalism to know what to trust, share and act on. Many sources compete for attention online, including partisan blogs and bogus sites posing as legitimate news organizations. It can be tough to know what information to trust. So, what does ‘credibility’ look like, and how can you recognize it?”

Now more than ever is it important to be able to thoroughly vet news sources for accuracy so you as a citizen can be properly informed of major events, local events, and be able to recognize credibility and factuality. Join us at the Las Cruces Public Library for a talk about why it’s important, how to properly vet news sources and images, and more.
